Teach Away is a teacher recruitment agency that places teachers in countries around the world (Teach Away, n.d.). To be a teacher in another country would be an amazing opportunity to learn about and experience different cultures and help educate children in different countries. However, you have to have your teaching license which I do not have (Teach Away, n.d.). The agency itself does have job posting for a placement coordinator. I do not have actual experience teaching abroad, but I have traveled a lot. I am energetic and have good teamwork skills. One of the preferred skills is fluent in another language which I do not have (Teach Away, n.d.). I think if I were to work for any international organization I need to learn another language.
Education International is an organization that represents other teacher and education employee organizations (Education International, n.d.). They promote "quality education, interests of teachers and other education employees, and equality in society" (Education International, n.d.). This would be a great company to help educators all around the globe provides quality services and help all children receive an education. There were no jobs listed currently, but it did list some of the qualifications needed for employment. One is knowledge of German, French, or Spanish (Education International, n.d.). I do have some knowledge of the German language and very little of Spanish, but have not used it in over ten years since high school so I would need to refresh my memory. I also would need to improve my IT abilities. I am not the best person with technology so that is one area that is a weakness.
The International Literacy Association's (ILA) "mission is to empower educators, inspire students, and encourage leaders with the resources they need to make literacy accessible for all" (International Literacy Association, n.d.). This would be a great organization to be a part of because literacy is so important. Learning to read and having access to books opens the world to children. Though there were no actual job positions posted there is a way to be involved. All the manuscripts submitted to ILA are reviewed by peers in the profession. The Reading Teacher is for "educators interested in literacy instruction for children through age 12". (Wiley Online Library, n.d.). By becoming a reviewer I can help the field and promote literacy for children across the globe.

Dear Jennie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your international organizations. I especially like the Teach Away organization because it gives someone the opportunity to teach in another country. The international organizations I researched also required the individual to be able to speak other languages. I think this is necessary when teaching children in various parts of the world.
Jennie,
ReplyDeleteI also like the Teach Away organization. I am reminded of President Kennedy and his initiatives with the Peace Corps and Sargent Shriver his brother in law with the Peace Corps, Job Corps and Head Start programs. Our ability to do good does not necessarily have the condition of money but the heart and the passion. The language issue is a big barrier for anything overseas and I see many of us have seen this to a problem. I should have paid more attention 35 years ago with my French!! This may be where the technology could come in handy with translating and helping at least for basic starting things in most countries. Your sites are fabulous.

Jennie,
ReplyDeleteI also explored the Teach Away site. I am not interested in teaching abroad at this time, but one never knows what the future holds. I did notice that many of the jobs offered travel expenses and housing accommodations, which I think would be a big draw for young, single professionals looking to gain both teaching experience and world travel.
I wish you much success in whatever you choose to do in the future!
Kathy
Jennie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the research you did on the organizations and they all sound like great places to work. It seems many of us share the challenges of "no job vacancies" along with no reference to the types of jobs they would have. I am not bilingual either so I would not qualify for some of these positions either, but I love the fact they are concerned about the diverse populations and trying to accommodate.
Dear Jennie,
ReplyDeleteYou shared some great information with us. I especially like the organization Teach Away. What an interesting way to find teaching position abroad. I have always wondered about that. I have heard from people over the years that would know someone who would go teach in another country and always thought is sounded so hard, especially If they were not fluent in the native language. Some places require it, while others do not. Great post.
Jennie,
ReplyDeleteYou post was very interesting and informative. I enjoyed reading about the jobs that you selected. I was especially interested in Teach Away but, with a family, I often think I am limited to travel abroad. However, you never know, maybe this is something I would do as I get close to retirement age. Thank you for sharing your post was great.

Dear Jennie,
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you finally finishing your study on this program. You mentioned your Bachelor’s degree is not in early childhood that learning this program has given you great opportunity to “equip” your knowledge. I can imagine it was not an easy journey but you made it! I believe Walden’s program has been one of the best to change many people’s life and has great influence on their goals for the education. I would love to hear from you and your further plan in the future about continuing your long-term goal. All the best to your succeed in achieving it.
